DIVI (German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive and Emergency Medicine)

DIVI (German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive and Emergency Medicine) is an association of personal members, scientific societies, and professional associations aiming to promote the purposes of intensive medicine. Founded in 1977, DIVI underwent a major restructuring in 2008. According to the statutes, the purpose of the new DIVI is to promote science, practice, and research in intensive and emergency medicine.

Improved safety for patients

Standardised colour-coding to minimise mix-ups of syringe medications in intensive and emergency medicine. DIVI developed a recommendation for a new standard.

Standardised coloured labelling of medications contained in syringes is intended to help prevent mix-ups of medications during the treatment of patients in the future. Through a recommendation for the labelling of syringe medications in intensive and emergency medicine, DIVI (Deutsche Interdisziplinäre Vereinigung für Intensiv- und Notfallmedizin) aims to establish a new standard in this area.
 
For this purpose, groups of medications having their own colour identification will be established. These identifications will be attached to the syringe pumps by means of adhesive labels and are intended to prevent mix-ups of medication. The concept was established by the Drug Safety Committee (Kommission Arzneimittelsicherheit)) of DIVI in co-operation with the Drug Committee of the German Physicians (Arzneimittelkommission der Deutschen Ärzteschaft, AKdÄ), working group of German Hospital Pharmacists (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Deutscher Krankenhausapotheker, ADKA), Association of Pharmaceutical Research Companies (VFA), German Society for Anaesthesiology and Operative Intensive Medicine (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Anästhesiologie und operative Intensivmedizin (DGAI) and the Technical Units of DIVI.
